Posiblemente el mejor disco navideño de la historia, esta creación de Phil Spector de 1963 con las estrellas del momento de Philles Records ofrece auténtico valor musical más allá de la coartada comercial. Grabado en monoaural por su máximo defensor, el estilo de sus temas y la adición de efectos novedosos provoca que olvidemos su origen y admiremos la maestría del que fuera el creador del así llamado "muro de sonido". Por desgracia el mismo año de su lanzamiento se produjo el asesinato de JFK, y un público acongojado le dio la espalda.

"The incredible" Jimmy Smith imparte en este Blue Note de 1962 una lección magistral en los usos del Hammond B-3 con un ojo puesto en las raíces y otro en la novedad. Cumbre del organista avezado, este LP supone entre otras cosas la implantación del sonido Hammond y una vuelta de tuerca al superar el trío de órgano al uso y acompañarse de guitarra y tenor al mismo tiempo. Es también presentación en sociedad de un Stanley Turrentine al tenor, que ya no desaparecería de escena. Con Donald Bailey a la batería y Kenny Burrell a la guitarra se completa este cuarteto imbatible en las maneras de un jazz uptempo aliñado con las especies de la modernidad sesentera.

Ray Charles para Atlantic. En 1959 hasta una disquera arrojada como Atlantic temía que el tema que da nombre al LP fuera demasiado atrevido y demasiado largo. Las dos caras del single solucionaron lo de la longitud. En cuanto a la letra... el disco salió disparado al # 1 de las listas de R&B y al 6 de las generales, abriendo una puerta que hasta entonces se había mantenido cerrada al gran público: claras insinuaciones sexuales para la pista de baile.
