Cualquiera de ellos puede mitigar la depre pascual... o ahondarla con alevosía, y constituyen joyas preciadas para este que suscribe.

Estos avezados autores de instrumentales guitarreros toman al asalto las fiestas navideñas con profusión de reverbs y trémolos como aggiornamento de tradiciones. El sonido del disco se halla a medio camino entre el descaro y sencillez sesentero y el kitsch más horripilante, pero ese afán por recorrer la fina línea que separa el genio del ridículo lo hacen merecedor de un puesto destacado en esta lista. Sugiero su escucha en pequeñas dosis, aunque es una auténtica joya para cualquier coleccionista que no tema torturar la resaca de año nuevo de sus vecinos. Por algo los incluyó Tarantino en su Pulp Fiction.
4. The Beach Boy's Christmas Album (1964). Siete estándards y cinco composiciones de su líder, Brian Wilson, lograron para este mega clásico álbum el disco de oro. Juegos vocales, armonías enrevesadas y ambiente optimista para unas navidades eminentemente playeras no aptas para diabéticos de tan melosas. Aquí Santa ya no vive en el Polo Norte sino en California, tierra de chicas bronceadas y sonrisas dentífricas. A pesar de las aparentes buenas vibraciones, ese año de cuatro discos publicados y lleno de éxitos fue preludio de las honduras creativas (y psiquiátricas) del sr. Wilson, quien a pesar de cantarle a la blanca navidad parecía vivir un infierno personal que ninguna tabla de surf podía mitigar.

Nat King Cole (1960).Aquí tienes las portadas del LP y el single de mayor éxito del único álbum que Nat King Cole dedicó a las felices fiestas, pero con el que logró desbancar a Bing Crosby del monopolio navideño. Nat King Cole, el único negro que podías invitar a casa sin que a tu madre le diera un infarto ni tu padre buscara la escopeta, se alzó definitivamente a la cima del crooner global con versiones de temas estrictamente tradicionales que hoy en día hacen olvidar las de sus predecesores. El disco no es nada original, pero permitidme que incluya en la lista a mi voz preferida. Si al oír a Nat no te aletea el corazón, tal vez estés muerto.
6. Reggae Christmas from Studio One. (1992) Recopilatorio inusitado del célebre Studio One sito en Kingston, Jamaica, donde se citan los Wailers de Bob Marley y variadas estrellas del ska, el rocksteady, el reggae y el dub más abisal a mayor gloria de unas navidades verdes y sin semillas. Este es el album ideal para regalar a las malas compañías y para las fiestas playeras de año nuevo, además de documento histórico sobre los diferentes estilos jamaicanos en su faceta más demencial y psicotrópica. Especial mención merece el tema que abre el disco, If we make it through the winter, donde los buenos deseos son pura ansia de supervivencia famélica y vaquera.
8. The Jackson 5 Christmas Album. (1970) Desde un tiempo lejano en que las navidades eran siempre blancas y Michael Jackson siempre negro, nos llega este disco subtitulado Merry Christmas from Motown, compendio de conocidísimos temas navideños pasados a la fuerza por la batidora soulera del sonido Detroit para lucimiento del benjamín de la familia Jackson. En conjunto el resultado es almibarado y carente de pegada, nada comparable a un Santa Claus funky desbocado como James Brown, pero incluye temas adecuados para unas fiestas movedizas y bailongas o para que la abuela se marque unos pasos antes de atragantarse con las uvas.
9. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Christmas Time Again. (2000) El grupo de Johnny Van Zant se acompaña de casi docena y media de colaboradores para pergeñar este bromazo navideño a ritmo de rock sureño, recuperando temas al uso del mismísimo Chuck Berry y aportando otros propios como el que da nombre al disco. Guitarrazos desenfrenados, voces cazallosas, riffs acelerados y ambiente etílico de club de mala muerte aliñan este álbum gamberro, ideal para ir de compras y espantar a los que pretenden robarte la plaza en el aparcamiento del centro comercial. 10. BoneyM Christmas Album. (1981) A pesar de que este cuarteto de domador y tres fieras era de origen antillano, tras caer en manos de los más truculentos productores del llamado europop afincados en Munich su fama cruzó fronteras como pocos en aquellos años, pues combinaban lo mejor de varios mundos y no tenían recato en prestarse a las composiciones más temibles por machaconas y torturantes que fueran. Se hicieron célebres en África, los países árabes, la India, el sudeste asiático e incluso la URSS a pesar del telón de acero, y este disco tiene buena parte de culpa, pues incluye el tema Feliz Navidad (que en su dicción germano-antillana sonaba algo así como "Felis Nafitat") que llegaron a tararear hasta los esquimales, si es que ellos celebran algo en pleno invierno. La manera en que sus melodías quedaron incrustadas en mi cráneo y las imágenes de mi infancia (cuando la Navidad realmente importaba) les hacen merecedores de aparecer aquí aunque sea en último puesto. Si tienes niños menores de seis años o mayores de setenta, esta puede ser apuesta segura para arrancarles una sonrisa.

Hola, acabo de descubrir el blog (como enlace de El busca del vinilo perdido). Y no me resisto a comentar dos de mis discos navideños favoritos, algo así como las dos caras de una misma moneda: arrollador el uno, arrullador el otro.
A saber, "Christmas is a Special Day" (1993, The Right Stuff) del gran Fats Domino, en el que ataca con una energía inagotable, clásicos como Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Blue Christmas y hasta Silent Night. Y ¡cómo no! "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra" (1956, Capitol), en el que el maestro, arropado por los arreglos de Gordon Jenkins, nos deleita con Have Yourself a Merry Little Chhristmas, White Christmas, Adeste Fideles y un buen puñado de entrañables melodías.
en lo que estoy totalmente de acuerdo es en que el mejor disco navideño de todos los tiemopos es el spectoriano, que desde hace muchos años escucho religiosamente en Navidad, y del que espero seguir disfrutando muchos más.

Efectivamente, creo que los dos discos que mencionas son merecedores de estar en puestos altos de cualquier lista navideña, pero en esta ocasión preferí favorecer la variedad. En el caso de Sinatra, esa joya de Capitol es maravillosa, y en un vinilo original suena con una presencia impactante.
